National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

NAPLAN 2009

In 2009 the dates for the National Assessment Program will be Tuesday May 12 – Thursday May 14.

Understanding NAPLAN Parent Reports

NAPLAN reports to parents will be distributed to schools in the week beginning 8 September.

It has been agreed that reports to parents will be distributed across Australia by all schools on Friday 19th September or as soon after that date as possible.

The website for National Literacy and Numeracy Week in NSW also has a video for parents about the NAPLAN tests. The video is called What is NAPLAN.

This site has a number of other useful videos on Literacy and Numeracy topics for both parents and schools.

NAPLAN 2008

In 2008 The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy was introduced for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

Purpose of the National Assessment Program

The purpose of the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is to assess the literacy and numeracy learning of students in all Australian schools.

The results of these tests will provide useful information for teachers and parents. In particular, they will help inform teachers in their ongoing efforts to address the literacy and numeracy needs of their students.

In NSW the NAPLAN tests will replace the Basic Skills Tests (BST), English Language and Literacy Assessment (ELLA) and Secondary Numeracy Assessment Program (SNAP).
